I’ve always been interested in exploring the detritus and other marginalia that fills the periphery of our lives, whether it’s stuff that people notice or simply don’t pay any attention to at all. Since childhood, abandonments, both stumbled upon and deliberately sought out, both rural and urban, have always been a big attraction, beckoning me to explore them. And then there’s the perennial draw of the road trip, whether by train or by automobile, exploring throughout southern Ontario, down east, and into American cities such as Detroit, New York, Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
